Dear Filmmaker; During the signing of any legal & binding contract or film production deal, demand an honesty clause. Finding an idea is not difficult. Literally, everyone has a script or an idea which they feel can be a good movie. Feature development also involves selling, buying, financing, packaging, producing, and marketing projects in hopes of getting the infamous "green light." Unfortunately, maybe 1% of them, might be even close to decent, so it's our job in development to find that 1%. ( Don't let that deter your asperation in filmmaking.) If you are lucky enough to find a story that is worthy of being made into a film, it's then all about convincing everyone that it should be made. Generally, You want to bring as much to the table as possible before presenting it to the studio, buyers and financiers. If it's just the idea alone, usually Neon Lights Entertainment will develop it into a studio pitch, which is just a short presentation of the idea. Otherwise, your idea can be used as the basis for a script which can be developed into a package and shopped around town to the different studios. At any stage in the process, it can be good to package the material, which is getting talent, actors, writers, directors, or other producers attached and hopefully our efforts will push a studio to buy your idea. There's no right approach, but there are ways to make your life easier as you create your story. Before you sit down to write a screenplay you need to come up with a compelling story. What's the best approach?
